What really matters

Lucky is our second Ridgeback.  We had the adored Truman form the age of 7 weeks, and said goodbye last year. He was 11 1/2. It was hard to lose him, as any dog lover will know.
Truman was a very handsome boy, as you can see.

When we first went to meet Lucky, I was very interested in how he would look. I was particularly curious to see if he had a perfect ridge, as our old boy did. But the minute we met Lucky, all I could see was his beautiful spirit, his friendliness and open heart, and we both loved him straight away. A friend asked the next day what his ridge was like, and I actually hadn't noticed. On meeting him, it didn't matter.
Now that he's been home for a couple of days, I'm starting to see just how closely he resembles Truman. And it's so obvious, that I can't believe I haven't seen it before. It's a testament to the uniquness of Lucky's personality. He looks just like our old boy, but he couldn't be more different. And that turns out to be a truly wonderful thing!
We walked up Salisbury Crags in Holyrood Park this morning, and learned a new command- 'left'. Using this, we can keep him safely on our left, even if the flex is out all of the way. It on'y took Lucky about 15 minutes to learn this, clever boy that he is!
He's got his first 'meet and greet' with his new vet today, and a lovely day of walks and play with Scot, while I'm at work.
